Established in 1986, The H.E.M.M. Conference is Black Wharton's premier calendar event. It is held in honor of Dr. Howard E. Mitchell, a former professor at Penn dedicated to corporate social responsibility and diversity. Students gain great exposure to a variety of corporations in the Financial Services, Consulting, Technology and Retail industries.

Career Fair: The Career Fair is one of the key components of the H.E.M.M. Conference. This event allows members of Black Wharton and the greater Penn community to learn about our sponsor companies and network with recruiters. The fair often provides students with their first interaction with diversity recruiters, and is the main way Black Wharton members are made aware of internship opportunities.

Luncheon: The H.E.M.M. Luncheon is a fantastic opportunity for students to speak on a more personal level to the professionals in attendance while enjoying an exquisite meal. A distinguished speaker will be in attendance. The H.E.M.M. Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students who demonstrate a commitment to social conscience as well as academic excellence.

Panels: Panelists will share their perspectives on specified topics in relation to the current business environment as well as provide tips for growth strategies. Students are given the opportunity to hear from our panelists and ask questions in an interactive setting.

Alumni Reception: The Alumni Dessert Reception is the first event of the H.E.M.M. Conference, taking place the evening before the career fair. The reception provides an opportunity for alumni, current Black Wharton members, and representatives from our sponsor companies to interact in an informal setting.

Launched in 2009, the Galvanizing Adolescents towards a Legacy of Achievement Award reaffirms BWUA's institutional commitment to civic engagement and corporate social responsibility.

Each year, BWUA honors one local organization whose exemplary work supports, uplifts, and inspires members of our Philadelphia community. The Philadelphia Education Fund served as the inaugural GALA recipient, based on its tireless efforts and results in improving the quality of public education for underserved youth. The Second Annual GALA was awarded to ACHIEVEability for its noteworthy efforts to eliminate poverty through a comprehensive and sustained program of action. Our Third Annual GALA honored the Philadelphia Student Union, for their dynamic, visionary & student-led efforts that have galvanized countless Philadelphia youth to take ownership of their education through hands-on advocacy and student-leader development.

Launched in 2006, the annual BWUA Freshmen Luncheon serves as a kickoff to a new school year and an introduction to BWUA for freshmen. The goal of the event is to bring the freshmen class together and inform them of everything that our club has to offer.

The luncheon includes an incredible meal, as well as an inspiring keynote speaker from senior executives at Fortune 500 companies. The luncheon provides a chance for incoming freshmen to network with current BWUA members and administration. All BWUA members and freshmen are encouraged to attend.
